KUWAIT CITY, May 18: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Ahmad Al- Nawaf recently discussed the expatriate workers’ violations file with Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Integrity Enhancement Jamal Al-Jalawi, as well as the concerned officials in the ministries of Interior and Justice and the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM), reports Al- Seyassah daily.

During the meeting, Sheikh Ahmad Al- Nawaf pointed out that the above-mentioned file is sensitive and important as it reflects on the civility of the State and its commitment to protect human rights, as well as to comply with international treaties and agreements. On the other hand, security sources told the daily that one of the recommendations presented at the meeting is setting a deadline for those who violated the Residency Law to rectify their status, pay fines and settle absconding cases.

Sources explained this proposal is aimed at rectifying the status of more than 150,000 violators; indicating the Interior Ministry carried out the ‘Leave Safe’ campaign during the corona crisis with about 27,000 beneficiaries who were exempted from paying fines. Sources added this will cost the State millions of Kuwaiti dinars; because the total fine will be capped at KD 600, warning that extensive security campaigns will follow after the deadline.
