Religious bodies to step up enforcement

       RELIGIOUS authorities detected a total of 33 cases involving deviant teachings and deviant worship, as well as false indoctrination and information last year, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

       Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) and state religious departments would continue to work together to protect the image of Islam.

       These included enforcement activities on syariah criminal offences such as deviant teachings and gambling, as well as holding webinars, forums and syariah offence awareness campaigns“Throughout the year 2020, there were 33 cases involving deviant teaching, deviant worship, false doctrines and false information,” Ahmad Marzuk said in reply to a question from Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PH-Kapar) during Question Time.Abdullah Sani had questioned the government’s commitment to ensuring that the image and sanctity of Islam was protected from negative influences.
