KUALA LUMPUR: A man has been going around stealing prepaid mobile network reload codes from 24-hour convenience shops in the city here, hitting 13 outlets so far.
MCA public services and complaints department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said that the man would ask to buy prepaid reloads but then claim that he does not have enough money to pay for them.
"He would tell cashiers to put the prepaid reload slips on the table but would discreetly use his phone to take photos of the reload codes.
"He would then say that he does not have enough money to pay for them and will come back after going to the ATM," he said in a press conference at Wisma MCA here on Wednesday (Nov 17).
KK Mart senior manager Steven Lim, said that 13 of their outlets had been targeted by the same man within the past 30 days.
"We first noticed him around the middle of October and we lodged a police report on Nov 6.
"The man has targeted our shops within the Klang Valley and we estimate our losses to be around RM3,000," he said.
