PETALING JAYA: Repair and maintenance work for Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) locomotives, which were put on hold during the pandemic, have resumed in the past few months, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said that prior to the pandemic, CRRC Dalian alongside a local Malaysian company were tasked with conducting maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) work on 10 Class 29 diesel electric locomotives belonging to KTMB.

"In 2020 and 2021, locomotive manufacturing experts from CRRC Dalian were unable to enter Malaysia to carry out MRO works due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"However, a few months ago, this locomotive manufacturing specialist group had already entered Malaysia to begin their work," he said on Facebook on Wednesday (June 15).

He added that so far, four units of class the electric diesel locomotive have been repaired.

Dr Wee said this after receving a visit from a CRRC Dalian delegation led by its vice-chairman Chen Baining on Wednesday.
