JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional shouldn't expect the outcome of the recent Melaka state election to be repeated in the Johor state election, said PKR's Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim.
Hassan described Johoreans as fence-sitters and added that voters are objecting to this state election because it is a waste of public funds.
"They are questioning why not wait until the coming 15th general election," said Hassan in a statement on Monday (March 7).
Hassan also said the influx of voters in the 40s show that fence sitters will play an important role in determining the outcome.
"Undi18 and new automatic voter registration was implemented in the Johor state election. In Melaka, this did not happen," he added.
Hassan also said the presence of political leaders with court cases in Barisan's campaigns will make fence sitters think twice when voting.
"They will ask themselves, is this the party that I will vote for?"
Hassan also said Barisan's arrogance in wanting a two-thirds majority in the Johor state assembly will repel prospective voters.
On Sunday (March 6), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Barisan is targeting at least a two-thirds majority after the Johor state election.
In the Melaka polls last November, Barisan obtained a two-thirds majority after it won 21 out of the 28 seats it contested.
The Johor state election is on March 12.
