All “L” trains that run on the Loop elevated tracks operated with residual delays early Tuesday after a fire broke out at the Clark and Lake station, according to the Chicago Transit Authority.
Beginning about 6:05 a.m., all lines in the Loop were affected, according to an alert from the CTA. By 6:45 a.m., trains were again moving but were operating on a delayed schedule.
Jon Kaplan, a CTA spokesman, said there was a “minor track fire” at 5:52 a.m., which he stressed in an email had been during “off-peak hours.”
“It was a minor track fire and we’re investigating the cause. It delayed Loop ‘L’ service for 26 minutes. We had service up and running again in time for the morning rush hour, with just some minor residual delays,” he said.
No injuries were reported, he said.
Additional information about the fire’s severity wasn’t immediately available. The Chicago Fire Department did not respond to a request for comment.
In addition, Red, Yellow and Purple line trains were running with delays Tuesday morning following switching issues at the Howard Street CTA terminal, according to the agency.
Commuters were asked to allow additional travel time.
