JOHOR BARU: The number of flood evacuees in Johor has declined to 2,679 victims from 757 families as of 8pm on Monday (Jan 10), compared to 2,935 people from 846 families at 4pm.
State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan (pic) said the victims were taking shelter at 36 temporary relief centres (PPS) in four districts affected by flood.
"The majority of the victims are in Segamat district with 991 people from 256 families at 16 PPS," he said in a statement.
Vidyananthan said Muar has 952 people from 284 families at 10 PPS, Tangkak with 655 people from 199 families at nine PPS and Batu Pahat with 81 victims from 18 families at one PPS.
He said three PPS in Segamat - Balairaya Taman Suria, Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Paya Pulai and Kompleks Penghulu Mukim Pogoh were closed on Monday.
"PPS Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Yong Peng in Batu Pahat was also closed today," said Vidyananthan.
He said two rivers in Muar were still at dangerous levels, and the rivers were Sungai Muar (Kampung Olak Sepam) at 2.65m and Sungai Muar (Bukit Kepong) at 4.30m.
Vidyananthan said Jalan Pogoh (Kampung Limau Manis and Kampung Paya Besar) in Segamat from KM6.5 to KM6.7, was only accessible for heavy vehicles.
He said Jalan Pogoh (Felcra Pogoh) in Segamat from KM14.4 to KM16.4, was closed for all vehicles while Jalan Felda Bukit Aping (Jalan Kemuning 1) in Kota Tinggi was also closed for all vehicles due to a landslide in the area.
Vidyananthan said two roads in Muar – Jalan Tekam-Pogoh from KM1.0 to KM2.0 and Jalan Muar-Labis (before Sungai Tui bridge) from KM59.5 to KM61.3km, were closed for all vehicles.
"Jalan Lingkaran Barat in Kluang at KM1.1, is only accessible for light vehicles as there is a landslide in a 20m stretch along the KM1.1," he said.
