KUALA KRAI: A bus with 22 people who had just returned from performing the umrah crashed into a drain in Manek Urai here.
All passengers, including the 37-year-old bus driver and 21-year-old co-driver, were safe, with some suffering minor injuries in the incident early Sunday (Feb 27).
Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station chief Muhammad Rizwan Arrafee Parsimin said the pilgrims consisted of 11 men and 11 women.
"We received an emergency call from the public at about 6.47am before rushing to the scene.
"As soon as we arrived at the location at about 7.16am, we found that all the passengers had gotten off the bus without serious injuries," he said.
Muhammad Rizwan said the group of pilgrims had boarded the bus at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sepang after returning home late Saturday (Feb 26).
He said the initial investigation found that the incident was caused by slippery road conditions due to heavy rain which caused the driver to lose control of the bus.
