Russia: Moscow street locked down following drone attack

Putin has taken a major hit today, as a drone attack on Russia's capital Moscow left buildings burnt out and residents fleeing - just hours after Zelensky vowed revenge after Russia bombed a Ukraine cathedral killing on person.

Russia has accused Ukraine of being behind the drone attack and at least two buildings are thought to have been damaged in the early hours.

The Russian defence ministry claims two drones were "suppressed and crashed" in the city. It says there were no casualties.

State-owned broadcaster Tass says one of the drones fell near to the defence ministry building. Ukranian officials are yet to comment, although they rarely remark on alleged attacks, reports the BBC.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the drone strikes hit "non-residential" buildings at around 4am local time (1am GMT). He said neither building sustained major damage.

Russian ammo depot in flames after huge explosion rocks Crimea following missile attack

Footage has emerged reportedly showing the aftermath of a missile strike on a depot in Crimea.

The video posted on Twitter shows a large plume of smoke over the Crimaean village of Vilne.

Express.co.uk is attempting to verify the clip which appeared online on Monday.

State news agencies say some drone fragments were found around 2km - around 1.2 miles - away from the ministry building. Writing on Telegram, the defence ministry said: "A Kyiv regime attempt to carry out a terrorist act using two drones on objects on the territory of the city of Moscow was stopped."

Tass said drone debris was also found along the city's Komsomolsky Avenue. While Moscow's transport department said traffic along the route was blocked.

Reports suggest traffic was also stopped on Likhachev Avenue, where a high-rise office building was damaged. Footage shared from Moscow shows a building with some of the windows missing.

The attack comes just hours after an attack by Russian forces on the historic Transfiguration Cathedral and six residential buildings in Odesa, an attack which left one dead and 22 injured. Following the attack, Volodymyr Zelensky promised a “retaliation” against Russia.

Moscow has accused Ukraine of a number of drone attacks in recent months. Earlier this month it said flights had to be diverted from Vnukovo International Airport after drone strikes - Ukraine did not claim responsibility.

The drone strikes on Monday come days after Russia targeted the Ukrainian port city of Odesa with fresh missile strikes, destroying the historical Transfiguration Cathedral.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed retaliation for the attack. He said: "They will definitely feel this. The target of all these missiles is not just cities, villages or people. Their target is humanity and the foundations of our entire European culture."
