GEORGE TOWN: Motorists are advised to avoid using the Jalan Masjid Negeri route towards the Penang Bridge after a tree hit a car.
In a statement on Tuesday (Feb 22), the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) advised the public to choose alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion in the area. “The MBPP team comprising workers from the Landscape Department, Municipal Services Department and the Enforcement Department rushed to the location of the fallen tree at Jalan Masjid Negeri after receiving a call from the public.
“The incident happened at 3.40pm involving a car.
“The driver and passengers were rushed to the Penang Hospital for emergency treatment,” the statement said.
MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang personally came to monitor the pruning, removal and cleaning-up work.
“MBPP expresses its sympathy to the victims involved and prayed that they do not suffer serious injuries and recover soon,” the statement said.
