PETALING JAYA: Owners of Singapore-registered vehicle whose Touch ‘n Go cards are expired or have insufficient balance will be given a one-week grace period from paying the Road Charge (RC) upon entry into Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       The Transport Minister said the exemption from April 1 to 7 was implemented to prevent congestion from occurring at entry points via the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) checkpoints.

       “This allows those using Singapore-registered vehicles to renew their Touch n’ Go cards, top up balances or register and install the RFID Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) tag on their vehicles.

       “Similarly, those with valid RFID VEP tags are also exempted from paying the RC during this period,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (March 28).

       Dr Wee explained that this exemption would be done under Section 88E of the Road Transport Act 1987, adding that this decision was made upon discussion with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

       Earlier, Dr Wee said that public transportation services between Malaysia and Singapore would resume on April 1 when the two countries open their land borders to all travellers.

       He added that this would apply to all forms of cross-border public transportation, including stage buses, express buses, tourist buses, worker buses and taxis.
