Meghan Markle and Prince Harry plan ‘fake royal tours’ next year - royal expert claims

In September, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took part in their first public engagement since the birth of their daughter Lilibet when they visited New York. Despite stepping back as frontline members of the Royal Family last January, the event was described as having “striking similarities” with an official royal tour.

During the visit, the couple were hosted by the city’s mayor Bill de Blasio - arriving to much fanfare.

They attended local landmarks, including the One World Trade Center, and even used their platform to call for vaccine equity at the Global Citizen Live concert event.

Royal commentator Neil Sean later described the events “fake royal tours” on his YouTube channel.

Now he has claimed the couple - who relocated to America after stepping back from official royal duties - are set to engage in more trips.

Speaking this week, Mr Sean said: “According to a very good source, Harry and Meghan are planning even more, shall we say, ‘fake royal tours’ in 2022.

“Apparently they are looking to tour Australia, Japan and back to certain areas of the United States."

Harry, 37, meanwhile is planning to release his “tell-all” autobiography.

When he announced the project in July, the father-of-two vowed the memoir will be “a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

News of the hotly-awaited book - and what embarrassment it could cause the royals - remains to be seen.

But there have already been reported worries inside Buckingham Palace about what the book might divulge.

The timing of its release could align with this tour, Mr Sean claimed.

He believes the Sussexes spreading their appeal further afield would provide Harry with an opportunity to plug his book.

Speculating on the rumoured trips, Mr Sean said the news had “baffled” many courtiers.

Despite the news raising eyebrows in the UK, he said that if it materialised it could help to boost the couple’s popularity with the public.

Suggesting that the pair are “not that popular right now”, he added: “Maybe they’re hoping to reignite their once popularity in far-flung places.

“But a lot of people, particularly senior courtiers in the royal circles, are baffled, because, what exactly are they touring for?”

Despite this, they have yet to announce any plans on when they might return to the UK and see the Queen - who is yet to meet her great-granddaughter Lilibet.
