Prince Harry is returning to New York this week to attend the Intrepid Museum's Salute to Freedom Gala on November 11, where he will be a special guest and present medals for the Intrepid Valor Awards to five service members, veterans and military families who are living with "invisible wounds of war." The Duke of Sussex, who was forced to give up his military honours when he stepped down from his Royal Family role, will not be able to wear his uniform during the ceremony. Meghan Markle will not attend the event with him as she is looking after the couple's two children.

She said: "He should absolutely be allowed to do this.

"I mean, he set up the Invictus Games, which is an extraordinary thing. Really.

"He's just giving awards to people in the military who have been injured or have done things with great courage."

"Harry was in that plane, he was a serving soldier for 10 years."

"He did two tours of Afghanistan."

Ms Mollard continued: "It was in the back of a plane as he saw injured soldiers coming back that he had the idea for Invictus.

"So yes, I think this is this correlates with his purpose. It's close to his heart.

"And I think look, if you take that way away from the guy, you've taken him out of the family, you take him away from that kind of military connection.

"You don't have much left, that's a really honourable part of his innate purpose and part of his identity."

Prince Harry is known for his work with veterans and he founded the Invictus Games, a sporting event for wounded servicemen and servicewomen in 2014.

Harry served in the army for ten years, rising to the rank of Captain.

His decision to leave the Army was confirmed in March 2015.

The following year her met his now-wife, Meghan Markle, who he later married in 2018.

They now have two children, Archie and Lilibet.
