Every year, the Queen leads the nation in remembering those who lost their lives in conflict on Remembrance Sunday. Politicians and other members of the Royal Family join the Queen at the Cenotaph in London, to lay a wreath and pay respects to those who served.

The Queen has been ordered to rest by doctors in recent weeks, which has meant the monarch has cancelled several planned engagements.

However, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday that the monarch will be in attendance at Remembrance Sunday for the service, despite cancelling other events.

A statement from Buckingham Palace read: "The Queen will attend the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph on Sunday 14th November.

"As in previous years, Her Majesty will view the service from the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office building.

"Mindful of her doctors' recent advice, the Queen has decided not to attend the General Synod Service and Opening Session on Tuesday 16th November."

The statement added: "The Earl of Wessex will attend as planned."

The Palace had previously said it remained the Queen's "firm intention" to attend the Remembrance Day service on November 14.

However, the Queen will not be attending the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday.

Several members of the Royal Family will be filling in for the Queen at the event.

Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge will be in attendance.

They will be joined by Princess Anne, her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

In addition to the Queen, several members of the Royal Family are likely to attend the Remembrance Sunday service this year.

Working members of the Royal Family who have previously attended the service include Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.

Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex are also working royals who have attended the ceremony in recent years.

In recent years, Prince Charles has laid a wreath on the Queen's behalf at the Cenotaph memorial while she watches from the nearby balcony.

Last year, the Queen's grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were not present at the Remembrance Sunday service.

Harry and Meghan now live in the US, and the pair are not expected to attend the service this year at the Cenotaph.

The Sussexes paid tribute to military personnel, veterans and their families at the Salute to Freedom Gala in New York on Wednesday, with both Harry and Meghan donning a poppy for the occasion.
