King Charles is doing a good job according to a recent poll of UK residents - and after his first year on the throne he “looks 10 years younger”.

The monarch has been on the throne as king a year today (Friday, September 8).

Experts agree that there was “nervousness” about what his future might hold and how the public would take to their new king.

But according to new polling and sources close to the King his reign is going well.

A source who knows the King well told The Times: “Before he acceded the throne, there was obviously a lot of nervousness around what would happen to the country following the demise of the Queen.

“And there was certainly nervousness around how people would accept him in those first few days.”

But a recent survey by YouGov found that 59 per cent of people thought the King was doing a good job.

The source continued: “Someone who knows him well said to me, ‘He looks ten years younger and he has got a real sense of purpose about him’."

King Charles’s successful first year on the throne has not come about by accident, however, with much of it mapped out long in advance.

The source said: “He has been at pains to make sure that as he has gone around in his first year; that he has spent time with a wide range of religious communities, as well as different ethnic communities, showing in deeds rather than just words that he is mindful that we are, as he has always said, ‘a community of communities’.”

There have been recent concerns that King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 76, will be stretched in their roles due to their ages.

Royal commentator Camilla Tominey pointed out on her GBNews show that both royals are ruling well into retirement age.

Tominey said: “Is it problematic for them that they're in their 70s, they've got this huge workload?

“There's been a few reports sort of saying, ohh God, they haven't found it as easy.”

But fellow royal commentator Ailsa Anderson batted back saying: “Yeah, no, I don't think so. I think the programme can be paced to represent their reflective ages.

"The King is known for having extreme high energy levels. You know he's a workaholic.

“So I don't think just because he's in his 70s that actually that will affect his pace at all. I think that's I think they'll they'll crack on.”
