PETALING JAYA: Veteran Umno leader Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad says he has his own views on the situation surrounding the mentri besar situation in Johor, based on the principle of democracy.
Shahrir said on Tuesday (March 15) that he was “embarrassed and ashamed” that his party was not able to nominate Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad as mentri besar.
“Power must be based on wisdom. When it comes to the party and the Sultan, at times I support the party and in other cases, the Sultan,” said Shahrir in a Facebook post on Wednesday (March 16).
Shahrir had said on Tuesday that despite the landslide victory, Umno could not name their mentri besar of choice and he would be embarrassed to face delegates during the upcoming general assembly.
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, the grandson of former prime minister Tun Hussein Onn, was sworn-in as Johor Mentri Besar on Tuesday.
