CHICAGO, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Ford Motor Company announced on its website Tuesday that it sold 161,300 new vehicles in the United States in August, up 2 percent from selling 158,088 vehicles in August 2022.
While internal combustion engine vehicles still make up the bulk of Ford's sales, the Dearborn automaker sold 6,940 battery-electric vehicles in August, up 17.7 percent from a year ago; and 10,945 hybrid vehicles, up nearly 32 percent.
Ford's truck sales rose 10 percent in August, while SUV sales fell 5.1 percent as a result of a 55-percent fall in sales of the Ford Explorer over an issue with the vehicle's rearview camera system.
Ford sold 63,287 F-Series in August, up 8.6 percent year on year.
In the first eight months, Ford's vehicle sales in the United States went up 8.5 percent.
As for other automakers, American Honda posted a 56.7-percent year-over-year gain in August. Hyundai-Kia's U.S. sales went up more than 5 percent from a year ago, The Detroit News reported Tuesday.
Industry information provider Cox Automotive had forecast an 8.8-percent year-over-year sales gain for the industry in August, as supply recovery continues to improve across the country, which leads to the market's sales gains this year, local media reported.
