GEORGE TOWN: There are no plans to control the sale of alcoholic beverages in convenience stores in Penang, says Zairil Khir Johari.
The state Infrastructure Committee chairman said the present laws in the Road Transport Act was sufficient to deal with drink-driving and there was no need for additional controls.
Zairil was answering a question by PAS assemblyman Yusni Mat Piah (PN-Penaga) at the state assembly, who asked if Penang was going to emulate Kuala Lumpur City Hall in restricting alcohol sales.
"There are no laws requiring those who buy alcohol to record their names.
"Only one police report on drink-driving was reported this year," said Zairil.
Yusni had asked for details on the number of people who had bought alcoholic beverages and accident cases due to drink-driving.
