Chicago Public Schools will hold classes Wednesday after canceling instruction and after-school activities Tuesday due to frigid temperatures that have gripped the city and suburbs.

In an announcement posted to the Chicago Public Schools website, school officials said classes would resume as the cold begins to ease but still advised students to wear layers and cover their heads, hand, feet and ears for travel to and from school.

Students will not need to make up missed class time from the Tuesday cancellation, the bulletin said.

Northwest suburban District U-46 in Elgin, the second largest in the state, announced Tuesday afternoon that classes would resume. It warned of possible bus delays and advised students to dress warmly for their commutes. Other suburban districts said students would learn remotely on Wednesday.
