Mr Flynn, the SNP’s leader in Westminster, pointed out that senior Labour figures including Gordon Brown had called for the cap to be scrapped.
Sir Keir Starmer said: “I am glad he mentioned Gordon Brown because the last Labour government lifted millions of children out pf poverty, something we are very, very proud of and this Government will approach the question with the same vigour with our new taskforce.

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle scolded the SNP chief for breaking House of Commons rules by bringing in a prop.
He had a printed a front-page story from the Daily Record last month with the headline "Vote for Ending Child Poverty".
It stated that former Prime Minister Gordon Brown said a vote for Labour would help end child poverty.

Sir Keir Starmer faced a small rebellion last night on the two child benefit policy which say him strip seven MPs of the Labour whip.
Former shadow chancellor John McDonnell, ex-business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey, Apsana Begum, Richard Burgon, Ian Byrne, Imran Hussain and Zarah Sultana have been suspended from the parliamentary party.
The House of Commons voted 363 to 103, majority 260, to reject the amendment tabled in the name of SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn.
