WHEN King of Mandopop Jay Chou posted an expensive piece of art he owned online, little did he expect Internet users to mistake it for an air-conditioner filter, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The 43-year-old posted on Instagram on Monday a text-based painting with the caption: “Kept this for a while and it’s time to take it out for display”.

However, many of Chou’s followers did not share the same appreciation for art, with many mistaking it for dried seaweed or an air-conditioner filter.

“Did he forget to take the air-conditioner filter out to be cleaned?” a curious Internet user wrote.

Eagle-eyed fans managed to identify the art piece as being the work of American contemporary artist Glenn Ligon worth around T$1,000,000 (RM148,487).

It was earlier reported that Chou, who is an art collector, had collaborated with Sotheby’s to curate an exhibition and two auctions in Hong Kong in 2021.

       > Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow is said to have turned down a Hollywood remake of his 1996 comedy God of Cookery, reported China Press.

According to a source close to the matter, Chow was presented with the offer after showing the film at the Venice Film Festival, which would have given him his first foray into the Western film industry.

However, negotiations broke down after Chow insisted for the plot to remain unchanged and for the main dishes featured in the film to be Chinese.

In the later years of his career, the 59-year-old veteran actor has been known to turn down Hollywood offers.

A notable one was as director of 2011’s Green Hornet.

Chow had insisted that the lead actor be Chinese, which is believed to have caused friction between him, the writer and actor Seth Rogan.

It led to Chow leaving the production.

God of Cookery is a 1996 Hong Kong comedy film produced, written, acted and directed by Chow.

       > A university undergraduate in Taiwan was dubbed the “Underwear Hero” after he was caught on camera chasing thieves wearing just his briefs, reported Sin Chew Daily.

CCTV footage showed the 19-year-old, whose surname is Chen, running out of his house in only his underwear, which led to friends calling him the “Underwear Hero”.

Despite chasing the thieves, Chen failed to catch them.

According to the police, however, Chen’s actions helped them identify two suspects: an 18 year-old-man and a 19-year-old woman suspected of stealing items worth TW$38,400 (RM5,701) from two houses in the area.

According to the police, Chen was taking a shower when he was startled by a loud noise outside.

When he looked out, he saw a stranger running.

Without thinking, Chen gave chase. According to the police, the case is still being investigated.
