KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) decisive victory in the 12th state polls is a sign that the people want political stability, and also a victory for all Sarawakians, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The caretaker chief minister said the strong mandate given to GPS was vital in ensuring economic development and social policies that prioritises Sarawakians.

“Political stability is very important for us to ensure development continues in the land of the hornbills,” said Abang Johari during his speech.

Abang Johari was speaking at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) after securing a two-thirds majority of 55 seats as of 9.25pm Saturday (Dec 18).

At the same time, Abang Johari also thanked voters, the GPS machinery, the Election Commission (EC) and the authorities for partaking in the 12th state election.

“Let us continue our efforts in carrying out our responsibilities and promises made in our election manifesto.

“God-willing, we will grow as a developed and high-income state by 2030.”

Abang Johari, who spoke in a press conference, said that he was in no rush to form his state Cabinet, citing the good relations enjoyed by GPS component parties.

“We are in no hurry because we are good partners and they gave me confidence. When the time comes, I will announce my Cabinet,” he added.

Abang Johari also said GPS will not accept any elected assemblymen who wanted to defect into its fold.

“We don’t like frogs and we don’t want frogs. Some frogs are blind you know?” said Abang Johari.

Abang Johari is now on his way to the Astana Negri for an audience with Yang di-Pertua Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

It is understood that he will be sworn in tonight as Chief Minister.
