KUALA LUMPUR: A 45-year-old man died while being held at Beranang satellite prison.

       Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Comm Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said the detainee was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 on Tuesday (April 12) and he pleaded not guilty.

       "As he was not bailed, the detainee was sent to Beranang satellite prison.

       "On Wednesday (April 13), lockup personnel was informed that the detainee suffered a seizure and contacted the hospital," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 14).

       The detainee was sent to the hospital for treatment but he died en route, he said.

       "The case of death has not been determined.

       "JIPS' Criminal and Custodial Death Investigation Unit will investigate the matter thoroughly," he said.
