KAMPAR: Ten people, nine of them foreign workers, have been found working in a vegetable-processing factory at the Gopeng Industrial Area despite wearing self-quarantine wrist tags.

Kampar OCPD Supt Hasron Nazri Hashim said the foreign workers, aged between 25 and 40, and their 32-year-old supervisor were arrested following a raid at 12.30pm on Saturday.

“A check on the tags found that they were supposed to be in self-quarantine from Aug 18-27. The quarantine order was issued by the Kampar Health Office.

“We also found that the supervisor had ordered the nine foreign workers to stay at the second floor of the factory so they could start work at 8am,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Supt Hasron Nazri said all 10 were being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code for negligence that could cause the spread of an infectious disease and Rule 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (National Recovery Plan).

“They have disobeyed the standard operating procedure under the second phase of the NRP.

“The investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action,” he added.
