IPOH: All assemblymen who attended the state assembly sitting on Monday have been told to undergo self-quarantine after one of them tested positive for Covid-19.
Others, including the Speaker, staff and special officers to the state representatives, would need to be isolated at home.
State health committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin said the assemblyman, whom he declined to name, had experienced fever since Monday night before receiving confirmation from a polymerase chain reaction test.
An assistant to the assemblyman said he tested positive yesterday.
“He had followed all procedures correctly before the adjournment of the meeting on Monday.
“He was tested daily during the entire period of the meeting and the results were negative,” he said.
Monday was the last day of the four-day meeting which was held in a bubble concept where the Speaker and 39 assemblymen were seated in the main hall while others were placed in separate rooms.
Three assemblymen – Mohd Zaidi Aziz (Slim), Dr Ko Chung Sen (Kepayang) and Muhammad Arafat Varisai Muhamad (Hulu Kinta) – did not attend the meeting due to various Covid-19 related reasons.
Perak Opposition leader Dr Abdul Aziz Bari confirmed that all state assemblymen had to self-quarantine but he did not specify for how long.
