IPOH: All Perak assemblymen who attended the sitting on Monday (Aug 30) have been told to self-quarantine after one of them tested positive for Covid-19.

       Perak Health Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin told Sinar Harian on Tuesday (Aug 31) that the assemblyman had tested positive after undergoing a swab test.

       Akmal said the assemblyman, who he declined to name, had experienced fever since Monday night before getting confirmation from a test.

       "All those who attended the sitting on Monday have been informed to undergo self-quarantine for safety purposes.

       "The instructions included the State Speaker, all workers and special officers for the state assemblymen," he told the Malay daily.

       Perak Opposition whip Dr Abdul Aziz confirmed the matter but did not say how long the assemblymen were required to self-quarantine.

       The four-day sitting, which was held in a bubble concept, started on Aug 25 and ended on Monday.

       The State Speaker and 39 assemblymen were seated in the main hall while the others were placed in separate rooms.

       Of the 59 state assemblymen, Slim assemblyman Mohd Zaidi Aziz, Kepayang assemblyman Dr Ko Chung Sen and Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhammad Arafat Varisai Muhamad were not present due to various Covid-19 related reasons and had followed the sitting virtually.

       When contacted, the assistant of the Covid-19 positive assemblyman said the latter had tested positive on Tuesday morning.

       "He had followed all procedures correctly before the adjournment of the sitting on Monday.

       "He was tested on Monday morning and the result came back negative," he said, while requesting for the assemblyman to remain anonymous.
