While President Joe Biden swept almost every Democratic contest on Super Tuesday and is well on his way to officially becoming his party’s nominee, the president did suffer one notable loss in his campaign - to Jason Palmer.
Palmer, a previously unknown Democratic candidate, won American Samoa, a tiny collection of islands in the South Pacific with fewer than 50,000 residents.

According to the local party, Palmer won 51 out of 91 ballots cast in the territory’s caucus. Palmer and Biden each earned three delegates from the race.
From Baltimore, Palmer has worked for various businesses and nonprofits during his career, often on issues involving technology and education.

Palmer said to Daily Express US: “When you’re a long-shot candidate and trying to win, you can only focus on a small number of territories. And I really just came to love the people of American Samoa.”
As part of his campaigning in the territory, Palmer said he ran a town hall and hired three local people for part-time beach cleanup.
He said: “The team was led by a woman named Miracle. And she really did, you know, pull out a miracle for me in American Samoa. And I’m eternally grateful.”
Palmer, 52, has never visited American Samoa, but he said he “would love to go visit over the summer and celebrate with everyone there.”

When asked why he thinks he beat Biden in the territory’s caucus on Super Tuesday, Palmer said it came down to two things.
He said: “One, I believe I was the only candidate who actually took them seriously and spent time with them doing these town halls. Many times people said, ‘We’ve never had a presidential candidate take us so seriously.’
“I learned a number of phrases in the local language…and I talked to them about their needs and their issues around education, health care, and climate change, which happen to be three main pillars of my campaign.
“Second, that was the same week that I came out with my new AI technology that we’re using in the campaign.”
Called Palmer AI, the technology displays an AI version of Palmer and gives answers on his policies and background. The technology also responds to text messages and emails from voters.
Palmer said: “At first I was trying to respond to them all individually because when you’re a new candidate, you try to develop a relationship with any voter you can…But after about 20 emails, I said, ‘You know what? I think we could feed this into an AI-type technology.’”

Palmer added that a big part of his win in American Samoa was connecting with the local people there - a campaign strategy he says Biden is lacking.
Palmer said: “Joe Biden’s biggest weakness right now is he’s so focused on foreign wars. And that brings his standing with the American people down every day. He needs to be focused on investing in the American people.
“He should be going around the country doing ribbon cuttings at the opening of high-speed rail lines at, you know, factories that are employing new chip workers in America.
“You know, places where they’re deploying thousands of solar panels to convert solar energy…it should not be a bunch of speeches, [it should be] actually going and being with people who are building the future of America.”
Palmer added that he thinks he would be a better president than Biden because he’s an “implementer.”

He said: “I’ve created a number of companies…My companies have created more than $2 billion in market value and helped more than 77 million Americans do better in education or workforce…
“Biden was a great legislative president, but right now we need a great messaging president and implementation president.”
Palmer said he plans to continue his campaign in states like Arizona, Missouri, and Kansas, and he has just announced his new political movement called TOGETHER!
