KUALA LUMPUR: A man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a senior citizen at a petrol station in the city.

       Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abd Shukor said police were alerted to the incident on Saturday (Nov 13) and arrested the 38-year-old suspect later that day.

       "The suspect, who works as a driver, has a prior record for a drug-related crime and is still wanted by police over the 2010 case.

       "We have seized a motorcycle, helmet and clothes believed to be used by the suspect during the assault," he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 14).

       In a 43sec video that was widely circulated on WhatsApp and social media, a car and a motorcycle were seen pulling up to the same petrol pump.

       When the car stops at the pump first, the motorcyclist confronts the driver.

       The two men were seen gesturing at each other before the motorcyclist swings his helmet, hitting the driver's head.

       As the driver falls to the ground, the motorcyclist puts on his helmet and flees the scene.

       ACP Amihizam said the suspect claimed that the car had cut him off at the petrol pump.

       "The suspect was not satisfied and reacted by hitting the victim with a helmet.

       "The 64-year-old victim received treatment at a nearby hospital and was discharged on Sunday," he said, adding that police would record a statement from the victim once he had recovered and was ready.

       He said the case had been classified as intentionally causing hurt with a weapon.

       "We have obtained a three-day remand order on the suspect to facilitate further investigations," he said, urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward immediately.
