Two teenage boys were shot in unrelated attacks in Chicago overnight, leaving one of them in critical condition, according to police.
A 17-year-old had been standing outside a residential building in the 5600 block of South King Drive in the Washington Park neighborhood about 4:35 a.m. Wednesday “when he was shot in the stomach by an unknown person,” according to a media notification from Chicago police.
He was taken by ambulance to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he had been listed in critical condition.
“There are currently no witnesses to this incident and the victim has been unable to speak with officers due to his condition,” the police statement said.
That shooting came hours after another in which a 16-year-old was injured in Lawndale, police said.
A 16-year-old boy had been standing outside in the 3100 block of West 15th Street when he heard gunshots and realized he had been shot in the foot. Police said the boy told investigators he did not see the person who shot him or know the direction the gunfire came from.
He arrived at Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment in a private vehicle and later was listed in good condition, police said.
No arrests had been made in either case.
