Drivers have been warned to expect severe delays of up to 90 minutes on the M25 following a three-vehicle collision on Monday.
The incident happened between J24 and J25 on the M25 clockwise, and involved a lorry and two vans, National Highways said.
The incident caused "oil spillage covering approximately 200 metres of two of the outside lanes", the organisation added.
National Highways also said: "This incident has occurred in a existing roadworks scheme in lane 1 meaning the lane 3 and 4 closure has left only 1 lane running."
