The man, who is in serious condition, was stabbed outside a takeaway shop in Ashton-under-Lyne. Police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a man with stab wounds at around 10.25pm on Wednesday.
Greater Manchester Police said a 16-year-old male has been detained and remains in custody in connection with the attack.
A police cordon was placed at the scene on Market Street.
Images of the scene show two police cars and police officers near the cordoned area.
They also show a large puddle of blood on the floor of the chicken shop, although it is still unknown where exactly the victim was attacked.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed details of the incident.
They said: “At around 10.25pm on Tuesday 18th August police were called to a report of a male with stab injuries on Market Street, Ashton-under-Lyne.
