PETALING JAYA: The role of women is very important for the development of society and the country, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

       The MCA president thanked all women for their sacrifices and services in a Facebook post in conjunction with International Women's Day, which was observed on Tuesday (March 8).

       "Women should be given their proper place in the public and private sectors. We cannot discriminate against women, let alone belittle their role.

       "On the contrary, the role of women should be appreciated and recognised," the Transport Minister said, adding that in any field – including politics –women were very important to the Malaysian Family.

       "Happy Women's Day! Thank you all for your sacrifices and services. Gender equality for a sustainable future," Dr Wee said.
