A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Saturday as storms moved through the South Side of the city into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The first thunderstorm warning was issued just after 3:50 p.m. for northeastern DuPage County and northern Cook County, weather service meteorologist Kevin Birk said. Cook County experienced about an inch to an 1 ? inches of rain in less than an hour and gusts up to 60 mph.
The threat is diminishing as the day ends, and should be done around 8 or 9 p.m., Birk said. A cold front is also pushing across the area behind the storms, but Sunday temperatures will be about the same in the low 90s with a drop in the humidity.
There have been no reports of tornadoes or any tornado warnings, Birk said. There have been no reports of any significant damages caused by the storms so far.
A special marine warning was issued for Lake Michigan from Wilmette Harbor to Michigan City, according to the weather service.
