PETALING JAYA: The government is swinging into action to help those affected by floods which have hit several states in Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister said he had ordered all related ministries to mobilise all assets in affected areas to ensure the people are safe and placed in temporary evacuation centres immediately, if needed.

He had also asked the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to set up an emergency helpline for flood victims who are trapped to call.

Nadma will also disseminate information on their official social media accounts, together with related agencies.

“I have spoken to the Malaysian Armed Forces chief and Inspector-General of Police to use assets from the military, police, Malaysia Civil Defence Department, Fire and Rescue Department and other supporting agencies to aid flood victims.

“They will ensure food supplies, necessities and health services will be provided immediately at temporary evacuation centres,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday night (Dec 18).

Ismail Sabri said that Nadma had given a briefing about the flood situation following the continuous heavy rain since Friday (Dec 17).

“Nadma has been asked to work together with elected representatives at every constituency as they would have information on those who are affected.

“Such collection of information will be able to speed up the assistance and evacuation efforts,” he added.

Ismail urged the Malaysian Family in areas that are flooded to follow the evacuation orders from the authorities.

“Take care of your safety as well as your family’s.

“I will continue to monitor the situation from time to time and will inform the Malaysian Family on the steps and actions that have been taken,” he said.
