PETALING JAYA: Local MCA leaders, together with NGOs have extended help to flood victims in Bentong, Pahang since the first day of the floods in the area, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister said he visited SJK (C) Khai Mun Repas, Kampung Chamang and Kampung Kuala Repas in Bentong, Pahang, to get updated on the current situation in the area.
“I also met with the MCA Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM) volunteer team to get information on what the flood victims need at the moment,” he said, adding that the floods that hit Bentong on Dec 18 had affected many areas.
“The grassroots and local MCA leaders, together with NGOs have already come down to help since the first day of the disaster,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 26).
Dr Wee thanked volunteers from all over the country who have extended help to the flood victims in Bentong.
“I have visited several families of flood victims, as well as delivered mini gas stoves and food boxes to those in need.
“Many came to the Kampung Baru Chamang Community Hall to get necessities such as mattresses, blankets and pillows after cleaning their houses which were submerged in water as high as four feet and caused all the furniture to be damaged,” he said.
He commended the efforts shown by the community in helping one another as it reflected the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia, which is also in line with MCA's mission to continuously help the people.
