PETALING JAYA: Beware of loan sharks that are ready to pounce on flood victims, the police have warned.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said that while no such police reports had been lodged yet, the police are on alert.

“Based on intelligence gathered, several individuals from loan shark syndicates are known to have offered loans to victims.

“The public is advised to remain vigilant and not fall prey to these syndicates,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Comm Kamarudin noted that syndicates could take advantage of people during flood recovery.

“We urge the public to be our eyes and ears and to forward us any information on such commercial crimes,” he said.

Those with information can contact the police via the CCID Scam Response Centre hotline at 03-2610 1559 or the CCID WhatsApp info line at 013-211 1222.

Last Friday, Comm Kamarudin also urged the public to be careful when making donations for flood victims to avoid being cheated.
