KUALA LUMPUR: The MCMC has blocked accounts of individuals spreading the teachings of The Ahmadi Religion of Light and Peace on social media and contacted Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar regarding the issue, says Fahmi Fadzil.

"I checked this morning and the account can no longer be accessed. Previously, MCMC said they received views and reports from the Islamic Development Department Malaysia (Jakim) regarding the deviant teachings.

"Certain actions have been taken including investigations to ensure this evidence is not compromised. So after several matters were attended to, MCMC received the go-ahead from the Religious Affairs Minister and on Saturday (March 9), I see that the account can no longer be accessed," he said.

Last Thursday (March 7), Mohd Na'im was reported to have said that the teachings of The Ahmadi Religion of Light and Peace are contrary to Islamic law and his department will ensure that all content on social media regarding the teachings is taken down immediately to prevent the public from being influenced.

Previously, the investigation papers against eight followers of the Ahmadi religion who held a rally in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights in front of the Sogo shopping complex on July 29 were sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers on August 4, 2023.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said all eight suspects, aged between 18 and 56, were released on police bail after their remand period was over.

"They were remanded for a day to facilitate investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012," he told reporters when met at the KL Cops Urbanathlon programme at the Kuala Lumpur (KL) Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here on August 5, 2023 - Bernama
