The area’s recent severe weather resulted in a fatality when a heavy tree fell on a mobile home in Rockford, according to a storm report from the National Weather Service.
The person was one of three people rescued from the crushed trailer just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, Winnebago County authorities told the weather service. The tree was one of many that were damaged by the thunderstorms that swept through northern Illinois, bringing heavy gusts of wind to the area for the third consecutive day.
The identity of the person killed had not yet been released by officials in Winnebago County, as next of kin had not been notified Thursday, according to Coroner Bill Hintz.
More storms were expected later Thursday, during what the weather service said would likely be the final day of “warm, humid and unsettled” weather. Starting Friday and into the weekend, it should be cooler and dry, forecasters said.
