BALIK PULAU: Police here have identified the vehicle registration number of the person who recorded the video of several superbikers who performed dangerous stunts along the second Penang Bridge recently.
Balik Pulau OCPD Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said they are in the process of identifying the other superbikers in the video to assist with the investigation.
“Anyone with information can contact our southwest district traffic investigating officer Inspector Hamizah Ahmad Rosli (013-206 4682). The police are taking this incident seriously and advise road users to comply with existing laws,” he added.
Supt Kamarul said that they have received a police report about the incident and added that the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In a 44-second video which has since gone viral, the bikers can be seen riding at a high speed with the speedometer on one of the bikes shown hitting 285kph at one point.
The bikers were seen pulling “wheelies”, seemingly oblivious to the danger and two also exchanged fist bumps in the video posted on Facebook.
They did not travel on the motorcycle lane throughout the journey, and it is learned that the video was posted by one of the superbikers on social media two weeks ago.
In 2020, a 28-year-old male nurse was arrested for riding his superbike at high speed on Penang Bridge.
A video showed that his bike crossed the bridge in a little over two minutes.
Police subsequently launched an investigation following reports received, and tracked the suspect to his home at Rifle Range Flats, where he was arrested.
