PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 28 new Covid-19 clusters on Saturday, taking the current number of active ones in the country to 1,446.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 17 clusters were from workplaces, and six were community clusters.

Three clusters were among high-risk groups, while two clusters involved education groups.

Some 3,641 clusters came to a close on Saturday (Sept 11).

"Of the 19,550 new Covid-19 cases today, 98.6% are from categories One and Two (patients with no or mild symptoms)," Dr Noor Hisham said in his daily Covid-19 update on Saturday.

He added that only 1.4%, or 265 cases were patients with severe symptoms, namely those in Categories Three to Five.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0 or Rt) – now stands at 0.99.

"Eight states recorded rates above 1.0.

"Sarawak topped the list at 1.15, followed by Terengganu (1.10), Perlis (1.06) and Perak (1.05)," Dr Noor Hisham said.

Areas in the Klang Valley recorded rates below 1.0, with Selangor at 0.83, Kuala Lumpur at 0.8 and Putrajaya at 0.96.

Other states that recorded values below 1.0 are Kedah (0.97), Sabah (0.93), Melaka (0.92), Negri Sembilan (0.82) and Labuan (0).

The R0 of a virus is a measure of its transmission or number of new infections generated by each case.

An R0 rate of 1, for example, means that on average, each infected person will infect another person they come into contact with.
