MELAKA: The ferry service between Melaka and Dumai in Indonesia will resume operations next Thursday (May 5) after a two-year hiatus due to the series of movement control orders and travel restrictions.
Melaka Works, Transport, Public Infrastructure and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the ferry service will return to its normal schedule.
“There will be an event to welcome the first batch of passengers at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex at the Melaka-Dumai International Ferry Terminal at Bandar Hilir here on May 5,” he said on Friday (April 29).
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Suliman Md Ali had said his administration was awaiting the Federal Government's approval to reopen the ferry terminal.
He said the restarting of operations at the complex involved several procedures.
The Melaka-Dumai International Ferry Terminal ICQ Complex is one of the entry-exit gateways for Indonesians via Dumai, but the route was closed following the border closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
