Several injuries were reported in Bethesda on Saturday evening after a transformer exploded, the Montgomery County Fire Department said.

       The explosion occurred on Rugby Avenue between Auburn and Del Ray avenues, according to Pete Piringer, the spokesman for the county fire and rescue service.

       Several people were reported injured by flying debris, he said. Initial indications were that the injuries were not life-threatening.
