The Duchess, 74, started a book club in January 2021 and has shared many of her favourite reads on the Instagram page. However, in an interview she revealed what book left her terrified.

"The first time I think I'd ever heard of Susan Hill, I was taken to see the play 'The Woman In Black' and I have never, ever been so frightened in my life ever,” she said from her garden at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

“In fact, I think I went with a friend, I think we almost ran out, we were so frightened.

??"The moment when, you know, not to spoil it, but it's a very frightening moment."

Building on the success of her reading list in 2020, the royal launched The Duchess of Cornwall's Reading Room.

The Instagram page was created during a Covid lockdown, urging people to read.

Camilla posts her book recommendations, book conversations as well as interviews with authors.

Royal fans found the Duchess of Cornwall's reaction to The Woman In Black relatable.

"I was exactly the same both reading the book and then seeing the stage version. I'm loving these insights,” one Instagram user commented.

The Woman In Black is a novel written by Dame Susan Hill in 1983.

In 1987, the story was adapted and turned into a West End play.

Recently, a film adaptation has been released starring Daniel Radcliffe from the Harry Potter franchise.

"I think she's so adaptable, Susan, she could write anything. She's a very clever lady and her prose is so beautiful,” Camilla said.

“And I always write to her every year saying, you know, do hurry up, where is the next one?"
