GEORGE TOWN: An unidentified person is feared to have been trapped in a shophouse fire at Jalan Krian on Friday (Oct 8).

       A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said that in the 3.34pm incident, firemen from the Jalan Perak, Paya Terubong and Lebuh Pantai fire stations were deployed to the scene to contain the fire.

       "The fire destroyed about 30% of the two-storey shophouse," he said in a statement Friday.

       The spokesman said the fire was put out by firemen at about 4pm and the operation was also assisted by volunteer firemen from a nearby area.

       As at press time, firemen were still searching for the trapped victim.
