IPOH: Two children died during a fire at a three-storey shophouse in Seri Iskandar on Thursday (April 21) morning.
Perak Tengah OCPD Superintendant Barudin Wariso said the victims, identified as Muhammad Fahmi Mohd Fazlan Nizam, four, and his seven-month-old baby sister Nor Fahmia, were pronounced dead at the Changkat Melintang Hospital.
Supt Barudin said both victims did not suffer burns after members of the Fire and Rescue Department had gotten them out during the 5am incident.
"They were rushed to the hospital where they were confirmed dead by the medical officer there.
"A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death," he said in a statement.
Supt Barudin said the fire had broken out on the first floor of the building.
He said the children's parents, who run an eatery on the ground floor, were having sahur with several workers during the incident.
"The first floor was the workers' accommodation and there were two rooms.
"The fire was put out within 25 minutes," he said.
