KUCHING: Sarawak's new Covid-19 cases dropped to 242 on Tuesday (June 29), the lowest daily figure since April 8.

The state disaster management committee said Kuching reported the most cases with 51, followed by Sibu (27), Bintulu (20) and Miri (19).

Another 24 districts recorded between one and 18 cases each, taking the state's cumulative tally to 64,475.

The committee also said there were two more fatalities, bringing the death toll to 408.

The latest deaths were a 92-year-old man who was brought-in-dead to Sarikei Hospital and a 65-year-old woman who died at Miri Hospital.

In addition, two new community clusters were declared in Tebedu and Tatau.

The Tema Saan cluster was detected at Kampung Tema Saan, Tebedu, with 41 cases out of 222 individuals screened to date.

In Tatau, the Nanga Belungai cluster involved a longhouse placed under the enhanced movement control order.

"The infection spread through a gotong-royong activity held on July 13 as well as social interaction and close contact among the longhouse residents," the committee said.

The cluster currently has 13 cases from 51 individuals screened.

Meanwhile, the committee said the community credit sector would be allowed to operate starting today (June 29).

It said the sector was added to the list of essential services under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan.
