PETALING JAYA: The country is continuing to record lower Covid-19 cases with 4,782 new cases, the first time that infections have dropped below the 5,000 mark since June 22.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 7,414 recoveries were recorded, raising the total number of recoveries to 2,334,783.

A total of 607 patients are being treated in intensive care with 300 requiring ventilator support.

He said of the new cases, 96 were Categories Three, Four and Five, while the remaining comprised Categories One and Two.

“Nearly 243 million Covid-19 cases have been recorded globally with over 4.9 million deaths recorded, according to statistics from the Johns Hopkins University.

“Malaysia is showing a declining trend while Singapore and Brunei are seeing an increasing trend,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said although Malaysia showed a declining trend, standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance must continue in order to prevent an increase in cases.

“Until Oct 23, a total of 25,161,659 individuals have registered and received Covid-19 vaccinations.

“A total of 94.5% of the adult population have already been vaccinated while 72.4% of Malaysians have already been fully vaccinated.”
