Covid-19: 199 deaths recorded, highest since pandemic began

       PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 pandemic marked another grim milestone with 199 deaths on Wednesday (July 21), the highest in a single day so far.

       The previous highs were 138 fatalities reported on July 17 and 135 on July 8.

       The country's Covid-19 death toll has now reached 7,440 cases since the pandemic began, said the Health Ministry in it's a statement on Wednesday.

       Of the 199 deaths recorded, 84 were from Selangor, KL (57), Melaka (16), Kedah (12), Negri Sembilan (seven), Pahang (six), Johor (six), Terengganu (three), and two each in Kelantan, Penang and Perak, and one each in Sabah and Sarawak.

       There were 26 foreign nationals among the 199 deaths, consisting of 14 in KL, 10 in Selangor and one respectively in Melaka and Kedah.

       The Health Ministry also classified 33 deaths as "brought in dead" cases.

       There were 11,985 new cases recorded, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 951,884.

       There were 137,587 active Covid-19 cases as of Wednesday.

       At present, there are 927 people in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide with 459 on ventilator support.
