PETALING JAYA: Malaysia saw a slight decline in new Covid-19 cases, with 22,070 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.

       Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said Selangor continued to log the highest number of cases with 5,920.

       This was followed by Sabah with 3,010. Sarawak had 2,224 cases, followed by Kedah (2,072), Penang (1,829), Johor (1,809), and Kuala Lumpur with 1,068. Labuan was the only locality to record single-digit figures with eight new Covid-19 cases.

       From the total daily cases recorded, 21,658 (98.1%) involved those in categories One and Two, he said in a statement yesterday.

       Category One comprises asymptomatic patients, two (mild symptoms), three (experiencing pneumonia), four (have pneumonia and require oxygen), and five (critical stage, requiring ventilator support).

       The cumulative number of cases nationwide stood at 1,662,913.

       On Thursday, Malaysia recorded an all-time high of 24,599 cases.

       Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 21,877 recoveries were reported, bringing the cumulative figure for recoveries to 1,381,668.

       The number of active cases stood at 265,695.

       The number of fatalities was 339, bringing the death toll to 15,550. There were 21,877 recoveries.

       This means 1,381,668 have recovered from the disease nationwide.

       There are still 982 patients in intensive care units, with 470 requiring ventilation.

       The DG said the Covid-19 infectivity rate or R-naught (Rt) yesterday was 1.02, with Perlis registering the highest at 1.23, followed by Sarawak (1.20) and Sabah (1.19).
