MELAKA: The biggest losers in the Melaka state election were PKR, PAS and Gerakan, with all three failing to win a single seat.
PKR fielded 11 candidates but all lost at Lendu, Machap Jaya, Rembia, Kelebang, Paya Rumput, Sungai Udang, Asahan, Ayer Molek, Sungai Rambai, Rim and Tanjung Bidara.
In Paya Rumput, PKR central committee member Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar was defeated by Barisan Nasional’s Rais Yasin.
In the 14th General Election in 2018, PKR won three state seats.
Gerakan lost in all seats it contested, namely Asahan, Ayer Keroh, Kesidang, Kota Laksamana and Bandar Hilir.
PAS lost in all eight seats it contested: Kuala Linggi, Taboh Naning, Durian Tunggal, Kelebang, Bukit Katil, Duyong, Serkam, and Merlimau.
The defeat was a big blow to the Islamist party which was using the Perikatan Nasional logo for the first time in an election.
